Training Run: November 11, 2011

Slow and easy today.  With the 5k race coming up tomorrow, I just wanted to get in my 3 mile run with a slow, comfortable pace.  I finished the run in just under 37 minutes with a 1.5 minute walk break at each 10 minute mark.  It was really nice to run (okay, really a slow jog) at this pace.  I hope I feel this good for tomorrow’s race.

The Training Plan

Running ShoesHere’s a brief description of the plan I have for training.  I will be running 4-5 days each week with one increasingly long run.  Typical runs will be 3-5 miles.  The long run will typically be 1-2 miles longer than my last long run.  When the long runs start exceeding 8 miles, I will begin running them every other week.  Finally, I am incorporating walking breaks into my runs.  I have found that I lose very little time and keep my joints healthier when I take these breaks.  A typical run will include 6-8 minutes of running followed by 2 minutes of walking.  My marathon training plan is based on the ideas of the Jeff Galloway Marathon Training Program.
